Overview
This is a USDA-Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS)-funded project. The goal of this project is to build and provide a user-friendly, web-based portal that would automate the modeling process and estimate soil properties and soil health indicators from MIR spectra. The web-based portal will enable MIR-equipped NRCS-SPSD field offices, researchers, and land managers to upload MIR spectra and obtain estimates of various soil properties across the US. It will reduce the inconsistency and errors in soil property estimation by field scientists and differences in lab instruments and analytic methods. The estimated soil properties serve a variety of end-user-determined applications, including soil monitoring/surveillance, soil health assessment, soil classification, and dynamic soil survey.
